Lowering Anxiety through Exercise

The COVID-19 pandemic is a stressful time. Anxiety about the evolving situation may be causing strong emotions. Exercise is a great way to help reduce stress and manage anxiety.

  • Find a workout routine you like.
There are a lot of exercise videos available online. Finding a routine that is suitable for your fitness level will help you enjoy exercising. Many of the workouts require little to no equipment – and you can exercise at home with no membership fees!
  • Get outdoors.
If you are allowed outside to exercise, go for a walk or a jog. Remember to keep the required social distance to protect yourself and others. If you have a garden, tending to your plants is a great way to work out.
  • Get cleaning!
You can work out as you clean and disinfect your house. Take mopping to the next level and burn calories by doing lunges.

In these uncertain times, it is important to pay attention to your physical and mental well-being. You can try mental exercises like meditation, learning a new skill, listening to or playing music, or any other activities that you find relaxing or that stimulate your mind.

If you ever feel overwhelmed, pause for a few moments and take a deep breath. Remember to be kind to yourself and take some time to unwind.
