How to Cope during Self-Isolation

Many people are currently self-isolating due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and you may be experiencing a variety of emotions while navigating a new way of life at home.

There are some very simple steps you can take to stay well – emotionally and physically – and make your isolation more manageable:

  1. Establish a routine. Find a daily routine for meals, work, stress relief, and connecting with others that works for you.
  2. Monitor your health closely. Develop a pattern of checking twice daily for fever and respiratory symptoms such as cough and breathlessness.
  3. Secure your medications. Be sure you have enough medication that you or your family will need during this time.
  4. Observe good personal hygiene. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds. Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, and be sure to wash your hands right after.
  5. Look after your mental health. When you are in self-isolation, you may start to feel anxious or stressed. Meditation, reading books, watching TV and connecting with friends may help you cope.
