Communicating with Employees during the COVID-19 Pandemic

As the COVID-19 pandemic intensifies across the globe, businesses can play an important role in sharing guidance and protecting the well-being of employees and the community.

Here are some simple steps to consider:

  • Provide accurate information regularly
Connect employees with accurate and up-to-date information from the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and your local health authority.
  • Reduce anxiety and outline the steps you are taking on behalf of your employees
Provide clear instructions on what to do in the event of a confirmed or suspected case within your workforce, and share facts on how the virus is spread and the preventive actions you are taking to contain the transmission.
  • Reduce uncertainty
Inform employees about the impact on operations, services, travel, supply chain, and business, so employees are aware and can plan accordingly.
  • Summarize your policies and positions
Ensure all employees are aware of their health benefits. Let them know about paid or unpaid leave, payroll continuation, travel and group meetings.
  • Offer moral support
As many teams need to work remotely, it’s important to ensure that employees continue to feel safe and supported. Check in regularly with your team and support each other.
